The Stockholm based Ethiopian radio started its transmission 20 years ago in a tiny room at the ethiopian Community center which was then located at the Fridhemsplan in Stockholm. The aims and goals of the radio were to inform Ethiopians residing in Stockholm and the surroundings about the cultural, economical, and political situations in Ethiopia.


The radio became popular among Ethiopians all over the World in a short period of time due to:


1.The relatively high quality of the programs that are broadcasted


2.The broadcasting of the radio both live and over the internet


3.The live sending of the programs through the different Ethiopian paltalk Groups.


Because of the above mentioned reasons the Ethiopian diaspora took the radio into the heart and embraced it and started to join the different discussions and interviews the radio conducted by directly Calling from USA, Canada, Europe, Australia, New Zealand and Africa.


Since it started its transmission the radio has been sending different programs. Some of the programs include, News and views, sport, for the Children, interviews and discussions with politicians, artists, writers and celebrities of all kind. Some of the Swedish politicians which the radio conducted interviews and discussions during the years are : Beatrice Ask, Mona Sahlin, Carina Hägg, Thomas Bodström, Carin Jämtin and Wanja Lundby-Wedin. Ana Gomez, Birgitta Olsson and Marita Ulvskog are some of the members of the European parliament who have often been guests of the radio interview and discussion programs.


Since its inception the radio, as it is ethiopian and primarily for Ethiopians, has been conducting interviews with Ethiopian political-, cultural-, sport-and artistic celebrities. The one and only prof. Mesfin W/Mariam, ing Hailu Shawel, the former ethiopian president Negaso Gidada, the Young and rising ethiopian political star ing. Yilkal, Laurette Tsegaye G/Medhin, Tilahun Gessesse, Teddy Afro, Mohammed Ahmud, Tamagne Beyene, Emilia Mitiku, Kibebew Geda, Haile G/selassie, Tirunesh Dibaba, Meseret Defar and Saladin Seyd are some of the ethiopian celebrities the radio has conducted interview with during the years.


The radio is run,on voluntary basis, without any payment whatsoever, by individuals who have immense love for the motherland, i.e. Ethiopia, and its people. The radio has its own board of directors who jointly oversee that the radio is working according to its bylaws and an executive body who runs the radio.The only income sources of the Stockholm based Ethiopian radio are individual ethiopians who now and then make  donations and the Money that the radio earns by the annual celebration of the Ethiopian new year.
